Director of Operations and Production
Under the direction of the General Manager of KCLU Radio, the Director of Operations and Production (O&P) implements and executes the daily on-air technical operation of KCLU broadcast and online streams. The O&P Director programs the automation system for live and unattended program delivery, ensuring flawless delivery of all program elements. The O&P Director also provides operational and technical support for pledge drives and local news emergencies.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES (E=essential duty)
Programs and maintains on-air broadcast automation system (ENCO DAD) to ensure flawless execution of KCLU program stream(s).
Ensures all studio broadcast equipment is functioning properly and works with the station engineer to address any issues.
Acquires national programming and ensures it is broadcast-ready.
Troubleshoots any non-routine situations related to on-air delivery or broadcast equipment with support from station engineer.
Trains on-air hosts in technical operation and interaction with relevant support systems.
Monitors broadcast operations after hours, including nights and weekends. Fields calls and promptly troubleshoots impairments to broadcast service that originate within the station.
Produces daily and weekly topical promos from NPR, APM, and PRX, and station imaging, proof-of-performance and underwriting spots.
Ensures that urgent NPR news special coverage airs live and in full, regardless of when it is offered.
Generates program log, exports it to Enco playlist. Generates As Play and Exception Reports as needed to ensure accurate underwriting client billing.
In collaboration with News Director, serves as board operator and anchor after hours for local breaking news coverage.
Participates in on-air fundraising, election nights and other special events including remotes.
Working on weekends and holidays as needed.
Maintains Emergency Alert System logs and other "control point" documentation.
Prepares and uploads FCC Quarterly Issues and Problems reports.
Prepares and uploads Sound Exchange and other logs to NPR Digital.
Participates in station events and donor receptions.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Broadcast automation and storage systems as ENCO DAD
- Traffic systems such as Marketron or Allegiance or Pro Track
- Modern audio production and distribution systems such as Telos Axia or Wheatstone
- Public Radio Satellite System Content Depot
- Effective broadcast copywriting and promotion techniques
- Radio research and ability to interpret it

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination equivalent to: A Bachelor's degree in communication, broadcast journalism, Radio-Television-Film or related field from an accredited college or university; five years of increasingly responsible experience in radio or television broadcasting with one year of experience working with ENCO broadcast software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five years or more experience at a CPB-qualified public media organization
- Experience as a host and newscaster within NPR news magazine programs
- NPR news magazine on-air host experience.
