Under limited supervision, the Supervising Claim Attorney is responsible for managing the work product of Claim Attorneys in compliance with the Company's claim procedures. The Supervising Claim Attorney will also handle a caseload of higher exposure claims, from report date to conclusion, in compliance with the Company's claim procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages, trains, and directs claim team members.
- Performs and conducts performance assessments and oversees employee development.
- Ensures compliance with Company's claim handling procedures.
- Oversees coverage evaluations, ensuring the team's timely investigation, reserve recommendations and resolution of claims while ensuring high level of client service and professionalism.
- Maintains and applies working knowledge of claim attorneys' files.
- Ensures compliance with statutes and regulations.
- Provides guidance to the team on litigation management and assists, as appropriate, in negotiating and seeking reasoned resolution of claims and managing reserves.
- Handles a limited caseload of high exposure claims.
- Acts as lead resource for risk management, claims and underwriting questions and inquiries and provides additional assistance as requested.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Juris Doctorate
- Insurance coverage experience
- Minimum 10 years of professional liability claim experience
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to actively review work of others via file reviews, identify coaching opportunities, act on needed coaching opportunities and position subordinates for successful development.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
- Knowledge of state caselaw, as well as insurance regulations and statutes
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
